Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of people make up First?

First Detroit is open to any of God’s Children. We are a congregation founded on love, kindness, unity and freedom. First sees itself as a "bridge" in Metro Detroit; a bridge between the city & suburbs, a bridge between races, a bridge for those to cross into a new relationship in Jesus Christ.

What is the worship service like?

First's worship experiences try to have something for everyone. We enjoy singing songs of praise, contemporary Christian music, as well as the classical hymns of our faith.  Prayer and music are a central part of each worship experience. The sermons delivered by First's Ministerial Staff are based in the Bible, relevant to modern life, and intentional in teaching God’s word in Spirit and Truth, while delivering souls and bringing new believers to Christ.

What should I wear?

The Bible teaches that God looks at our hearts, not our clothes. So however you dress, whether you come in jeans, khakis, or suits, you will feel welcomed for who you are and fully supported while we all grow spiritually in the teachings of Jesus Christ.

What time is Worship?

We meet for Sunday Worship at 11am. Worship uses usually concludes no later than 12:30pm. Through our website, emails, our Facebook page, Twitter account, and the Sunday bulletin, you can stay up-to-date with the activities of our Church family.

What activities does First have for children & young adults?

Our Church has an array of activities for children of all ages. We make it a point to teach the word of God to our children while empowering them to learn, lead and live as heirs to “The Kingdom.”

What kind of church is First?

Our Church is a spiritual home which nurtures social and spiritual growth and the identification of one’s spiritual gifts. We encourage and support our members in their life endeavors, dreams and goals. We look to each other for Christian fellowship and friendship and ways to help one another to edify GOD each and every day of our lives. Our church was founded out of the Baptist tradition. We believe in the public acceptance of Jesus Christ as one’s personal Savior.
